Feelings of excitment and nervousness, the first time behind the wheel can be both a scary and satisfying time. I want to make sure that you come away from your first driving lesson with a sense of achievement and enthusiasm. I will pitch the level of instruction according to your previous experience so that you can start learning new skills from the beginning. So it doesn't matter if you are a complete beginner or a part-trained learner, you will receive the right level of tuition from the very start.

When you learn to drive with MSM you will receive plenty of support as you progress through the course. I will constantly be monitoring your skills and ability and adjusting the level of instruction as necessary. This method of teaching will ensure that you are constantly developing new skills and building on existing knowledge. At no point will you ever feel like you are not progressing. On your first lesson you will be shown your own personal DRIVER'S RECORD (shown right) This record charts your progress as you learn to drive. All the main subjects and lessons are listed down the left side of the page. As each subject is covered you will receive grades from 1-5. Grade 1 indicates you have been introduced to a new subject. As you improve at each subject and show you can act independantly your grade increases to a grade 5. When you have achieved a grade 5 in each subject you are ready to go for your practical test. This structured record of tuition allows you and I to judge progress and identify topics that need improving. This way you will always be progressing and improving.

Preparing for the practical test

So, you have passed the theory test and your lessons are progressing well. Next step is that dreaded driving test!
As your test date gets closer I will start to prepare you for the big day. Hopefully you will have acheived grade 5 in all of the subjects on the DRIVER'S RECORD (shown above) and your driving is of a satisfactory standard.
I will then conduct a mock driving test and role play the part of the examiner.
I will mark you in the same way the examiner will using the MOCK DRIVING TEST REPORT (shown left)
You will drive for 40 minutes as you would on your driving test.
After the "test" I will mark the form and discuss the outcome with you. Don't worry if you fail the mock test. The purpose of the mock test is to show you what the driving test will be like and also to highlight any potential problems you may encounter.
Better to find the problems at this stage than during your test!
Any problems found can be worked on, put right, practiced and give you the best possible chance of passing the driving test and driving safely for life.
